Golden Globes: What Happened to Colour?

Awards season and the red carpet brings many clues as to what we'll soon see on the racks at our favourite clothing boutiques. I was hoping for a lot more colour at this year's Golden Globes, but instead there were a lot of white, pale nude and flesh toned dresses. Some were indeed beautiful gowns, but it seemed like a safe choice for the actresses who didn't want to risk making a fashion faux pas. I've given each a rating from (1) to (10) based on nothing more than my own personal opinion.

Elle Macpherson in Zac Posen (10)

Jessica Chastain in Givenchy (9)

Giuiliana Rancic (8)

Note Trend: Hi Low Hemline

Sarah Paulson in Pamella Roland (6)

Heidi Klum in Calvin Klein Collection (6)

Jessica Biel in Elie Saab (4)

Amanda Peet in Marc Jacobs (2)

Some of the slightly braver nominees and presenters appeared on the red carpet with a touch of metallic sparkle added to their otherwise neutral choices.

Shailene Woodley in Marchesa (9)

Salma Hayek in Gucci (8)

Nicole Richie in Julien Macdonald (7)

Nicole Kidman in Versace (7)

Lea Michele in Marchesa (6)

My personal thanks go out to all of the actresses who took a chance and expressed some personality with jewel tones!! Sapphire Blue, Ruby Red, Emerald Green and Citrine Yellow - now we're talking!!

And of course, the moment you've all been waiting for, the Overall Category for Best Dress and Worst Dress. Without further ado, here are my top 3 and bottom 3 picks:

Claire Danes in J. Mendel (10)

Jessica Alba in Gucci (10)

Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture (10)

Sarah Michelle Gellar in Monique Lhuillier (0)

  1. It was an interesting show fashionwise. I tend to agree with most of your ratings except Angelina Jolie - I thought she looked like the Evil Queen from Snow White - too harsh. Sad because she's usually right on point. Loved Sophia Verga as always - showing off the mightiest of curves.
